Paris Perfume Workshop Review: Making My Own Perfume at Galimard

Last Updated on November 5, 2026 by Kimberly

Is the Galimard perfume workshop in Paris worth your time and money?

I took the Galimard perfume workshop in Paris on a solo day in October 2026. Two hours later, I walked out with a 100 ml bottle of perfume I made myself. I named it Autumn 2026. I have to say I had a lot of fun at this perfume workshop in Paris, and now I want to help you make your own decision when it comes down to it!

Here’s what the class costs (including the extra charge that caught me off guard), what happens once you sit down, and four other Paris perfume workshops if Galimard isn’t the right fit.

What Is the Galimard Perfume Workshop?

Galimard is a French perfume house founded in Grasse in 1747. Grasse sits in the hills above the French Riviera and is the town most closely tied to French perfume making, which is why so many perfume houses still have roots there. The Paris studio brings Galimard’s perfume-creation workshop to the 9th arrondissement at 43 rue de Provence, a short walk from the Opéra Garnier and Galeries Lafayette.

It’s one of the easiest ways to make your own perfume in Paris. An instructor explains how a perfume is built in layers, then you choose your own notes and blend a full-size bottle to take home. Galimard saves your formula, so you can reorder your perfume later.

Here’s what you need to know to decide if the Galimard perfume workshop is worth it for you.

Adding the French Riviera?

Why Take a Perfume Making Class in Paris?

  • You go home with a souvenir you made yourself, in a full-size bottle you’ll actually use.
  • It’s indoors, so a perfume workshop works on a rainy or cold day and fits easily between museums.
  • It’s easy to do as a solo female traveler in Paris. I booked it as a solo traveler, and I highly recommend it if you’re spending a day in Paris on your own.
  • It fits an Opéra district day. Pair it with the Opéra Garnier and Galeries Lafayette without crossing the city.

How Much Does the Galimard Perfume Workshop Cost?

I booked through Airbnb Experiences and paid $99.74. At the end of the class, I paid about €12 more for a glass bottle for my perfume, so plan on roughly $110 to $115 in total.

Galimard also sells the same Paris workshop on its own website for €89 per adult. A friend who wants to sit in without making a perfume can join for €15. Children under 15 pay €79, and the minimum age is 8 on Galimard’s site and 12 on Airbnb.

Compare the Airbnb price with Galimard’s own booking page before you pay. Depending on the exchange rate, booking direct can be a few dollars cheaper. Either way, budget about €12 extra if you want your perfume in a glass bottle.

What Happens When You Arrive at the Galimard Studio

The class runs for about two hours. Here’s how it goes:

  1. Check in at the boutique on rue de Provence and take a seat at the workshop table.
  2. Learn the perfume pyramid. The instructor explains top notes, heart notes, and base notes, and how each layer changes as the perfume settles on your skin.
  3. Smell and choose. You work through the essences, deciding which ones belong in your blend.
  4. Measure and blend. You build your formula layer by layer with the instructor’s guidance.
  5. Name your perfume. Your creation goes into a 100 ml bottle, and your formula is saved so you can reorder it.

Kimberly’s Tip

The Airbnb listing says up to 6 guests, but my class had about 15 people. If a small group matters to you, message the host before you book and ask how many people are in your session.

During the Workshop You’ll Learn How To

  • Build a perfume in layers: how top, heart, and base notes work together, and why the scent you smell first isn’t the one that lasts.
  • Trust your nose over your plan: how to choose notes by how they make you feel instead of what you expected to like.
  • Balance strong notes: how warm notes like vanilla, sandalwood and cinnamon can take over a blend if you’re not careful.
  • Save and reorder your formula: how Galimard keeps your recipe on file so you can order it again as a perfume, body cream or room scent.

My Galimard Perfume Workshop Experience

I walked in with a plan. I wanted something deep, with cinnamon and orange, that would remind me of traveling through Morocco. But then one of the instructors asked everyone to close their eyes, go with their senses and stop leaning on what they’d already chosen. So that’s what I did, and I built my perfume around how I was feeling that day instead.

The Notes I Chose for My Perfume

Here is what went into my bottle:

  • Base notes: vanille (vanilla), cèdre ébène (ebony cedar), tubéreuse (tuberose), santal exotique (exotic sandalwood), tabac (tobacco) and muguet musqué (musky lily of the valley), plus a few others
  • Heart notes: cannelle (cinnamon) and fleur de cerisier (cherry blossom)
  • Top notes: bergamote (bergamot), cardamome (cardamom), and secret du parfumeur (the perfumer’s secret)

I named it Autumn 2026 so I’d always remember how I felt that day in Paris.

Curious what solo travel can do for you? Read how it changed my life.

I absolutely love how mine turned out. One thing to know: the perfume isn’t finished when you walk out the door. You have to wait about two weeks for the notes to blend together, or as the perfumers say, for the scent to marry.

Kimberly’s Tip

Don’t judge your perfume the day you make it. Let the bottle rest for about two weeks so the notes can blend together before you wear it. If you’re flying home, it’ll be ready right around the time you unpack.

The One Thing That Caught Me Off Guard

The one thing that caught me off guard was the bottle. It isn’t included in the price when you book, so at the end of the class I paid about €12 more for it. I wish Galimard had built it into the booking price, or at least made it clear on the listing, because nobody likes a surprise charge after a $100 class.

This workshop was part of my solo day in Paris, followed by the Opéra Garnier and my favorite museum in the city, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Is the Galimard Perfume Workshop Worth It?

Yes, it’s worth it, especially if you’re traveling solo or want an activity that feels personal rather than another photo stop. For around $110 to $115 with the bottle, you get two hours with a perfume instructor, a full 100 ml Eau de Parfum and a formula you can reorder from home. I just wish the bottle were included when you book. Budget the extra €12 ahead of time and it won’t catch you off guard the way it did me.

It’s less of a fit if you want a quiet, small-group class, since my session had about 15 people. If that matters to you, ask the host about group size before booking, or look at one of the workshops below.

Other Paris Perfume Classes and Workshops

If Galimard’s timing, price or location doesn’t work for your trip, these Paris perfume workshops are worth comparing.

Fragonard Paris: Mini Perfume Workshop

A shorter option from another Grasse perfume house. A good pick if you want the experience without giving up two hours of your day.

Molinard Parfums Paris 6: Classic Perfume Creation Workshop

A full perfume creation class in the 6th arrondissement, an easy fit if you’re staying on the Left Bank.

Molinard Parfums Paris 1er: Discovery Perfume Workshop

Tips for Booking a Perfume Workshop in Paris

  • Skip your own perfume that day. A strong scent makes it harder to judge the notes you’re testing.
  • Reserve ahead, especially for weekends, the fall and the weeks before Christmas.
  • Arrive early. Galimard doesn’t admit latecomers once the class starts, and there aren’t refunds for late arrivals.
  • Both Airbnb and Galimard allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before your session.
  • It’s a good fit for solo travelers, friends and couples. On Galimard’s site, a partner can sit in for €15 without making a perfume.
  • Bring a card or cash for the bottle. Galimard takes cash, Visa and Mastercard.

Staying in the 9th puts you close to the Opéra, the department stores and good metro connections. You can compare hotels near the Opéra on Booking.com or Hotels.com.
