Italy Travel Guide
Italy at a Glance
Here you’ll find a collection of all of the blog posts I have on Italy while living here and traveling around Italy. I try to focus on guides rooted in experience, and I try to make sure I am not creating more noise. I genuinely want to help others plan their vacation to Italy and find off-the-beaten-track places in Italy.
I try to avoid comparison lists, even though I know the internet loves a good comparison. You may find one or two, but each city, town, and village in Italy stands out in more ways than one.
From the Dolomites to Venice to Bologna and Cinque Terre, I am always adding new information to my blog.

Venice

Venice is only a little over 45 minutes away from me. I go to Venice often and love the quiet nooks and crannies of the city. I am constantly working on blog posts to add here, so what you see is a small bit for now. Check back often as I write more every week.

Vicenza

Vicenza is only 45 minutes away from Verona, a little under an hour from Venice, and not too far from Padova. I have loved living here with every fiber of my being. This has been one of the best places to live, and my blog posts for Vicenza are growing rapidly. If you’re getting stationed here in Vicenza, I hope my guides help you out.

Bassano Del Grappa

Bassano Del Grappa is a historic city nestled in the Venetian pre-alps. It’s known for its grappa production and of course, historic ties to Hemingway and the Alpini. It’s one of my favorite cities in the Veneto region.

Dolomites

One of my favorite places in the world is the Dolomites. The Dolomites are just a few hours north of me, and I go to the Dolomites often. I have seen the Dolomites in every kind of season imaginable, with Fall in the Dolomites being my favorite. I even talk about things to do in the Dolomites in the wintertime if you don’t ski (that’s me!)
I’ve made reservations at rifugios and taught others how to do it, and stayed in Rifugios on the Alta Via 1 and 2. I did one of the best fall hikes in the Dolomites. When I first moved to Italy, I was writing tons of guides on the Dolomites, but I have kind of tapered off because tourism in the Dolomites is hitting the area hard. With sites like Seceda, Lago di Sorapis, Lago Carezza, Lago Di Braies, and Cadini di Misurina being loved to death. Trying to practice responsible tourism and blogging here.
It’s also tough competing with all the noise out there. Google loves sensational headlines and people who have no business writing guides to some of these places. I also don’t get invited to press trips in the Dolomites, and haven’t had a hosted hotel stay in the Dolomites so any information you find here is purely my own opinion

Lago Di Garda

Lago di Garda is to the east of Vicenza, and I have been there more times than I can count! I’ll be adding more Lago di Garda Blog posts as time goes on. There’s a lot to cover here!

Asiago

I am sure you have heard of Asiago Cheese. Did you know there is a whole area named after it? That’s right, Asiago is a beautiful mountainous plain just north of Venice, Vicenza and Verona. It’s one of the most historic areas with WWI forts and trenches and some of the hardest battles were fought here. Asiago has some of the best hiking too!

Prosecco Hills: Valdobbiadene

Just a quick day trip from Venice, Vicenza, and Verona lies the hills of Valdobbiadene, or the Prosecco Hills. This makes for a perfect experience to understand prosecco making in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Soave

Soave happens to be one of the most beautiful areas just outside of Verona. This small historical town is one of my favorites to take friends and family to.

Puglia or Apulia

Apulia is one of my favorite regions in Italy. It lies on the southern end of Italy on the eastern coast and feels like a lesser-known space where not many people travel to. My favorite season for this region is September, when it’s not as busy and it’s lighter weather.
